Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide (Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro) based on the 4-10 fragment of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), extended with a Pro-Gly-Pro sequence for stability. The fragment keeps neuroactive properties of ACTH without its hormonal effects on the adrenal glands.
Research on Semax focuses on learning and memory in animal models, neuroprotection in models of cerebral ischaemia, and its effects on brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and its receptor. It is frequently studied together with Selank.

Semax is a synthetic ACTH (4-10) analog heptapeptide used in laboratory research on cognition and neuroprotection.
The ACTH (4-10) fragment it is based on lacks the adrenal-stimulating activity of full-length ACTH, which is why it is studied for neural effects.
