Tirzepatide is a synthetic 39-amino-acid peptide that acts as an agonist at both the glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) receptor and the glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor. A C20 fatty diacid side chain lets it bind albumin, giving it a long half-life that suits extended study designs.
Because it engages two incretin pathways from one molecule, tirzepatide is used to study glycaemic control, insulin secretion, food intake and adipose tissue biology, and as a dual-agonist reference point alongside mono-agonists and triple agonists such as GLP-3RT.

Tirzepatide is a synthetic dual GIP / GLP-1 receptor agonist peptide used in laboratory research on glucose regulation and energy balance.
It activates two receptors, here the GIP and GLP-1 receptors, rather than one. Researchers use it to study how the two incretin pathways work together.
