What is PT-141?
PT-141, known as bremelanotide, is a synthetic cyclic heptapeptide developed from melanotan II. It acts as an agonist at melanocortin receptors, primarily MC4R and MC3R, which are expressed in the hypothalamus and other brain regions involved in motivation and behaviour.
Unlike compounds that act on the vascular system, PT-141 works through central melanocortin pathways, which is why it is used in research on hypothalamic signalling, sexual-behaviour models in animals and melanocortin receptor pharmacology.
